What You’ll Do
You’ll decide who to allow into the venue and who to refuse entry to. You’ll check people’s identification if you suspect they are under the required age for being on the premises, and also, prevent people from taking illegal substances into the venue or other banned items like drugs or weapons.
The job role may include other duties such as:
- Managing Crowds and Queues.
- Making Sure any Dress Codes are Followed.
- Checking Tickets.
- Patrolling Inside and Outside the Venue.
- Monitoring People’s Behaviour and Dealing with Conflicts.
- Restraining and Escorting People Out of the Venue.
- Dealing With Emergencies.
- Cooperating With Police, First-aiders, and Management.
Working Hours & Conditions
Your working hours will depend on the opening times of the venue but will usually include evening and weekend shifts. A typical shift will be 12 hours long.
You may have to work in all types of weather as well as noisy environments.
Once you have gained some experience, it is possible to move into other areas of security-related work, such as retail security or CCTV. There are also opportunities for progression up to team leader and area supervisory roles, among others.
